Work is expected to be completed in August on a 6-unit classroom block at Nhyiaeso in the Asante Akim North District, sponsored by MTN Ghana Foundation.
The nearly ¢500,000 facility will be available for children and teachers of the local District Assembly Basic School, for the new academic year in September.
Contractors, Wilfrim Enterprise, briefed MTN Foundation officials on the project during an inspection visit.
It was initiated after a Joy News Agenda report highlighted the poor state of the old building and how occupants were exposed to danger.
MTN Ghana Foundation has already disbursed over 70 per cent of construction cost. The project, comprising a library, staff common room and stores, is currently being roofed.
Its completion will end the suffering of pupil of Agogo-Nhyiaeso Basic School who have been learning in dilapidated structures.
Junior High School pupils who trek to school in nearby community are exposed to danger, particularly the female pupils who sometimes suffer sexual abuse.
MTN Ghana Foundation officials led by Corporate Service Executive, Sam Koranteng, visited the project site where Project Manager, Benjamin Atta Frimpong, briefed them.
“After the roof, we are going to do the plastering; we’ll have the lighting and then we have to do the ceiling and then painting. After painting, we have to furnish it with everything in it; the chairs, tables and everything. Within two to three months, [by August] we have to finish it,” Mr. Frimpong added.
Corporate Service Executive at MTN Ghana, Sam Koranteng is satisfied at the work rate and quality of work done so far.
